Could Rooney actually become the best player in the world?:
Manchester United's academy director Brian McClair:
"You would have to look at him on the same level as them," the Scot told The Manchester Evening News.
"Wayne Rooney has been a great player for a long period of time and year in, year out he has got better and better."
"He's proved how important he is for England, but I'm a Scot – I don't care what he does for them. He's been a very important player for United for a long time. He's done very well since he came here from Everton and irrespective of what he is asked to do he's done well. "He wants to be a goal scorer and the main striker. He will be given that chance this season and I am sure he will score lots of goals." (Source)

PFA Chief: I Would Have Rooney Over Ronaldo:
"It is an interesting question and a difficult decision but as an Englishman, if I was asked to make a choice between the two I would have Wayne Rooney," declared Taylor.
"Wayne has not been far away from being one of the best players in the world for a long time and certainly the way he finished off the season bodes well for Manchester United and England.
"Anyone would want a player of Cristiano Ronaldo's calibre in their team but I would certainly not view his departure as a backward step for Manchester United at all." (Source)

Desailly Wants The World To Forget About Messi And Ronaldo And Focus On Others:
"They're top players but neither of them are bigger than their own team" he added.
"They are two elements that can make the difference, but at this level you don't really have one player who can be decisive, [you win] collectively. It will be very difficult for those two because they're under a lot of pressure.
"Let's forget about them; you have Andres Iniesta, who is a magic player, you have Wayne Rooney who is a world-class player already. These are beautiful things that you have to see as well." (Source)

Could Best Player Spotlight Fall On Rooney In Rome?
Everyone is talking Messi-Ronaldo but numerous Barca players are focusing on the perhaps underrated Wayne Rooney:
Pique:
"I've never seen a player as powerful as Rooney – the way he goes past people, the intensity of his play, the runs he makes from the first minute to the last and the shot he has. He is world class. Perhaps he does not get the credit he deserves because he should score more goals but he offers so much. When he is focused he is unstoppable."
Iniesta:
"What I value most about the way they play is how hard players like Rooney work," he said. "He was filling in at left-back against us last year in the semi-final. Finals are not usually very tactical. We can plan a million things before the game but in the second minute they can strike and all the plans go out the window. We cannot commit any mistakes because they have so much firepower up-front." (Source)

Capello says Rooney is one of the Best Players in the World
''Rooney is one of the best players in the world,'' said Capello. ''He never played for the Under-21s. He jumped. Only the extra special players can do that.
''I remember when Sir Alex Ferguson bought him, I saw him at a UEFA meeting in Nyon. He said 'Fabio, I am crazy. I have just spent an awful lot of money on a very young player'.
''Now he is happy because he spent a lot of money on a very important player.''
''I don't know about goalkeeper but he could play anywhere else. But second striker is his best position because he is free,'' said Capello. ''He runs a lot but he also needs to touch the ball and be at the centre of the team's movement.''

Terry says Rooney is one of the Best Players in the World
John Terry after England defeated Slovakia 4-0:
"Wayne has probably missed 20 games through injuries and suspensions, but he is very young, very talented and one of the best in the world that is for sure...I have said before to let Wayne play, because that is what he is best at doing..Wayne is growing into a very mature man both on and off the field."

Ferdinand Thinks Rooney Could be Best
"Maybe it has had to be drilled into him, but Wayne is playing more like an orthodox centre-forward for us and - given time - he could easily be the best in the world..."
And... if you're the best centre-forward in the world you could easily become... the best player in the world.
